The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank — infrastructure and clean-energy capital across Asia.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank headquartered in Beijing, established in 2016 with 109+ members. It finances sustainable infrastructure across Asia and beyond, channelling capital into energy, transport, water, and urban development, with an increasing focus on climate-aligned investments and green transition.
AIIB's mission is to finance infrastructure that is sustainable, connected, and inclusive. It prioritises climate finance, clean energy, low-carbon transport, and resilient urban systems, aligning its portfolio with Paris Agreement goals and targeting 50%+ climate finance share by 2025.
India is AIIB's largest borrower, receiving billions in sovereign and non-sovereign financing. AIIB operates through the Indian government and private-sector pipelines, supporting solar energy, urban infrastructure, metro rail, and green finance. It co-finances projects with World Bank, ADB, and bilateral DFIs, making India a cornerstone of its Asia strategy.

Private developers and CXOs can access AIIB through non-sovereign windows or AIIB-backed fund managers. Engagement typically requires a bankable project at pre-financial-close stage, strong ESG compliance, and co-financing from a recognised DFI or bank. Sovereign projects route through the Ministry of Finance.
